I love to try new cake recipes for my kids. I love the anticipation as I slice the cake. “What will we have inside the cake today, mommy?” is their usual question. Well, thanks to my imagination, we have so many different ideas. From chocolate chip to snickers and M n M’s, there are so many choices. However, not many think about adding a cake within a cake and thinking, how can this be? Well, you can thank my creative mind later. Let me share a unique and fun cake recipe with you!

Strawberry Twinkie Cake

Main components

This cake is super simple. It has three main components i.e.

  • The cake: The cake is a delicious, moist, and fluffy base that is the main component. The simplest way to make a cake is by using a cake mix. Because I made this cake for my daughter, I used a strawberry cake mix. However, you can use any other cake mix as well. But I think strawberry cake mix is the perfect choice for this cake. It is super easy to make. All you need is eggs, water, and canola oil. It’s the easiest way to make a cake.
  • The frosting: The next main component is the frosting. I choose to add fresh strawberries for the frosting because nothing can beat the flavor and texture of fresh strawberries.
  • The whipping cream layer: To balance out the pink color, I decided to layer the cake with whipping cream in the end.

The Secret to this fun cake

Now, the components mentioned above seem pretty basic, so where is the fun in that? As a surprise element, I used twinkies! Yes, the same delicious cream-filled mini rectangular cakes we all love.

Now, if you are thinking, how can you re-bake a cake piece already ready to eat? Why not?

What I do is when I prepare the cake mix, I pour half of it into the baking dish. Then I unwrap the twinkies, place these in the cake batter, and pour the cake batter on top. Next, bake it like your usual cake, and that’s all!

Tips for perfect strawberry twinkie cake:

Here are a few tips you should keep in mind for perfect results:

  • When making the cake, make sure the eggs are at room temperature.
  • Once the cake is baked, let it cool before taking it out of the mold, or it can fall apart.
  • Never add frosting to the hot or warm cake. It will melt away instantly and ruin your cake.
  • You don’t have to add a layer of whipped cream over the frosting. Just add a few dollops and top with fresh strawberries for decor.
